Same in my office. All I wanted was a fax machine, but IT gave
me a 3-in-1 fax+copier+scanner, BUT will only provide support for
the fax function, and not the copier and scanner function.
No support from IT? Fine - I bought extra extension cables (and
make a claim for it), fixed the machine and installed all the 3
functions myself.
